F1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone has tipped Sebastian Vettel to emerge as champion for the third time when the 2012 season draws to a close next weekend in Brazil.

Vettel was able to extend his lead over Fernando Alonso to 13 points in Texas after finishing second behind Lewis Hamilton, while Alonso minimised his losses after rebounding from a difficult qualifying session to finish third.

While Alonso was able to keep himself in contention, Vettel will now go to Interlagos knowing that a top four finish will be good enough to make him champion for the third successive season.

For that reason, Ecclestone said he expected to see Red Bull ace Vettel emerge victorious in Brazil although he insisted that both drivers had shown themselves to be worthy of the title.

"I'd say Sebastian," he told SID. "Sebastian on the basis of his results but Fernando hasn't had the best car for the majority of the time, that's why he deserves it too."
