Luca di Montezemolo says he feels Ferrari and Fernando Alonso can still win the 2012 F1 title in Brazil despite Sebastian Vettel extending his advantage in the penultimate race of the year in Texas.

Although he missed out on victory to Lewis Hamilton, Vettel was able to clinch second spot at the Circuit of the Americas to move a further three points clear of third-placed Alonso - who will now head to Interlagos 13 points behind the defending champion.

Alonso will need luck to be on his side in Brazil if he is to clinch the title, with Vettel needing to only finish in the top four to be assured of the crown even if Alonso takes his first win on Brazilian soil.

With the possibility that rain could play a hand in proceedings, anything could still happen in Sao Paulo and di Montezemolo said Ferrari would be doing it all it could to end the season on top of the pile.

"We can be proud of what we have achieved so far," he wrote in a message to Ferrari staff. "For the past sixteen years, with very few exceptions, we have got used to reaching the final stage of the championship in this situation and here we are again this season, so that whatever the outcome, we have been contenders.

"However, pride is not enough: we want to win. Yesterday in Austin the team once again did a perfect job as indeed did both drivers; Fernando made it to the podium yet again and Felipe drove a fantastic race, apart from also demonstrating once again that he is a team player.

"Now we go to Sao Paolo, Brazil with the will to win, knowing that we will fight for it right to the last kilometre of the last lap of the race at Interlagos. I know it will be very tough, but I and all of us believe we can do it!"
