Red Bull success justifies Renault decision

Renault was right to stay in F1 as an engine supplier according to president Carlos Ghosn after Red Bull's latest title success
Renault president Carlos Ghosn insists that the decision to stay in F1 as an engine supplier has been justified by Red Bull winning the constructors' championship for a third successive season.

Victory was assured with a race to go after Sebastian Vettel took second place in the US Grand Prix, with the German also taking a 13 point lead in the drivers' championship into the season finale in Brazil this weekend.

The third title with Red Bull was the eleventh for Renault in F1 and Ghosn said it vindicated the decision to remain in the sport in an engine capacity despite the decision to sell the Renault team, which is now owned by Genii Capital and run under the Lotus banner.

“On behalf of Renault and all our employees I would like to congratulate Renault Sport F1 and Red Bull Racing for this latest success,” he said. “Eleven world constructors' titles for Renault in a little over 35 years in the sport is a considerable achievement.

“This result fully justifies Renault's decision to return to F1 engine supply and will provide additional motivation as we move forward to our next challenges : continued success in F1 and preparing for the introduction of the new engine regulations in 2014.”

I think the Red Bull wins are due to Red Bull teamwork, & more specifically Adrian Newey & Sebastian Vettel. The engines have never been the most powerful & the alternator has let both drivers down! Renault have some homework to do over the winter break!

Renault alternators by Magneti Marelli As used in Lotus and Caterham cars as well, but they have not had nowhere near as many problems. On that basis it is likely that RBRs problems are related to its location and the surrounding bodywork which prevent it being cooled correctly. In other words, it is Newey's design which is causing the problems.
