Kamui Kobayashi says he will do what he can to secure a place on the F1 grid again next season after the news that he will leave Sauber at the end of the current campaign.
The expected news that the Japanese racer would be on his way out came on Friday in Brazil after Sauber confirmed that Esteban Gutierrez will join
Nico Hulkenberg in an all-new driver line-up for the 2013 season.
Kobayashi now has only limited options if he is to keep his place on the grid and he admitted that he would probably need to find sponsorship if he was to be in a race seat again.
"We see I think still some seats that are available so we try to get a seat," he was quoted by
Reuters. "If we can find some sponsors I think it is easier.
"For Sauber it is my last race but for myself I think it is different. Everybody looks really worried but I don't really worry at the moment, I try to work hard to get sponsors and find out what's available for next year's seat."
Kobayashi has already been promoting a website, Kamui-Support.com, via his
Twitter account whereby Japanese fans can make donations to help him earn a drive.
"Suzuka had more than 100,000 people at the race... over the three days we had 200,000," he said. "I think we have a lot of potential to get some money from the fans as well. It has been just two days but it's going to help my career for sure."
