Romain Grosjean was the big name casualty in first qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix, joining the 'usual suspects' on the sidelines, after running into the back of the HRT of Pedro de la Rosa.
Grosjean and de la Rosa made contact on the start-finish straight near the end of Q1 and he then had to pit for a new nose.
In the end the Lotus driver was edged out by 0.223 seconds. It was the first time Grosjean has gone out in Q1 although with the track drying out as the session went on, conditions were rather tricky.
Grosjean was joined on the sidelines by the Caterham's of Vitaly Petrov and Heikki Kovalainen, who will start 19th and 20th.
Then came
Timo Glock and Charles Pic for Marussia, while at the rear Narain Karthikeyan put his HRT ahead of team-mate, de la Rosa. Both HRTs were within the 107 percent cut off.
At the front meanwhile,
Lewis Hamilton was quickest on a 1m 15.075s, followed by Bruno Senna and Jenson Button.
Nico Hulkenberg, Sebastian Vettel, Paul di Resta,
Nico Rosberg and Sergio Perez held positions four through to eight, with Michael Schumacher and
Fernando Alonso completing the top ten.
