Ten place grid drop for Pastor Maldonado means Fernando Alonso will start seventh in Brazilian Grand Prix
Alonso boosted by Maldonado penalty
Fernando Alonso has been moved up a place on the grid for the Brazilian Grand Prix after Pastor Maldonado was hit with a ten-place penalty by stewards following qualifying in Sao Paulo.

The Venezuelan had posted the sixth quickest time during the session but missed a weigh check during the second phase of qualifying when he drove past an FIA official calling him onto the scales.

As was the case with Mark Webber in Texas last weekend, Maldonado was handed a reprimand for the incident but he will now take a ten-place grid penalty with the reprimand being his third of the season.

The end result is that Maldonado will now start outside the top ten but crucially, it also moves Alonso up a place on the grid to seventh.

The Spaniard had qualified in eighth place having been unable to match the pace of title rival Sebastian Vettel, who will start the race from fourth on the grid.
