Bernie Ecclestone has expressed his disappointment following Ferrari's decision to call for clarification on allegations that
Sebastian Vettel overtook under yellow flags in last Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.
Although video evidence tends to prove that the German reacted to a green flag waving from a marshal post between turns three and four at Interlagos before passing Jean-Eric Vergne, and the
FIA has intimated that there is 'no case to answer',
Ferrari has confirmed that it contacted the governing body for a ruling on the matter.
“It's a shame because everything had gone so well,” Ecclestone told
Telegraph Sport, “It was a super race, a super championship. Now everyone is talking about this. The problem is that no one knows what is going on.”
Until the
FIA formally responds to Ferrari's enquiry, the situation will remain unresolved, but Ecclestone is convinced that the championship will remain with
Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull, rather than switching to the Scuderia's Fernando Alonso, as would have been the case if Vettel had received a 20-second post-race penalty for passing under yellows.
“In the rules and regs, normally you have to protest [immediately after the race],” Ecclestone continued, “[Ferrari] missed that time.
“Then there is the fact that a green flag was shown, which nobody seems to dispute. It's a complete joke. What [Ferrari] are saying in that letter is wrong. I don't think there needs to be any action taken. It's completely and utterly wrong. Nothing is going to happen.”
