Perez: I'm ready for McLaren pressure

Sergio Perez insists that he will be well-equipped to deal with the pressure Martin Whitmarsh says he should expect as a Mclaren driver.
Martin Whitmarsh has warned that Sergio Perez may find the expectations of racing for McLaren far greater than he has experienced previously, but the Mexican insists that he has already sampled the pressure of being an F1 driver.

Speaking to Dutch website formule.nl, Perez revealed that Sauber's improved performance in 2012 had brought its own pressure, with the extremes of good and bad results providing contrasting emotions.

“Of course there is extra pressure when you're driving at the front,” the 22-year old commented, “and I have to get used to that, but I have already had a taste of it at Sauber. When I was on the podium, I was a superstar and, when I didn't do well, I was the driver who made too many mistakes.”

Since his McLaren deal was announced between the Singapore and Japanese grands prix, Perez went scoreless to the end of the season, with several on-track incidents also causing critics to suggest that the Woking team had made the wrong decision with drivers such as Nico Hulkenberg also on the market.

Although Perez ended up beating the German by three points and one position in the championship it will be interesting to see how their fortunes differ once Hulkenberg replaces the Mexican at Sauber in 2013. Perez, however, insists that he has just one goal in mind for next season.

“I want to win titles with [McLaren], so I want to do it next year,” he claimed, “It will be a long season, so it's important that I am well prepared from the beginning in order to satisfy their expectations.”
