Grosjean: I'll do my best

Romain Grosjean says his aim is to 'do his best' after inking a new deal with Lotus for 2013
Romain Grosjean says he isn't setting himself any big objectives ahead of the 2013 season having been confirmed with Lotus for a second season.

The Frenchman was named as Kimi Raikkonen's team-mate for next season earlier this week in a move that was widely expected, despite a somewhat troubled 2012 campaign where he showed his undoubted speed but also got caught up in a number of incidents on track – such as the first corner shunt at Spa that resulted in a one race ban.

Having agreed his new deal, Grosjean will hope to repeat the kind of form that saw him finish on the podium three times and he insisted that his aim for the year ahead was simply to 'do the best job possible'.

“I have been waiting on this news for quite a while now and I was really hoping for it,” he told Sky Sports. “When I got it I felt really good, really proud and it is a sign of the confidence the team and the owners have in me. I am really looking forward to starting the 2013 season.

"The objective is to do my best, my best race and the best job for the team - I need to get out of the car and know I did the best I could - and of course scoring points as well. But I am not going to put any big objective straightaway - I am just going to do things the best I can."

Grosjean added that he was eager to avoid the incidents that affected his 2012 campaign having learned his lesson from the ban he was handed following the Belgian GP.

"The end of the year was pretty hard for me,” he said. “After the ban at Monza and getting back into the car and having to deliver straightaway was not easy. But then I really worked hard to try and improve and not make mistakes again - the first one to blame himself is me and the first one to lose as well.

"I was very sorry for the drivers that were involved. But I am not stupid - I know the risks and I will try not to make the same mistakes again and learn from that."

You know what they say....you can teach someone not to crash, you can't teach them to be fast...Romain has the speed, he just needs to cut down on the mistakes...I say he'll surprise a lot of people next year

It astounds me when blind men use Senna's megalomaniacal traits as a justification for the malicious disregard of integrity and decency in ones conduct toward others. Just because he did it DOES NOT JUSTIFY THE ACTION OR MENTALITY!
