Nico Hulkenberg has revealed that is already feeling 'bedded in' and perfectly at home with Sauber.
Hulkenberg opted to switch to Sauber for F1 2013 having spent 2012 with Force India, and speaking at the launch of the new C32-Ferrari on Saturday, the German added that he is excited about the year ahead.
“After the end of last season I have been around quite a bit [at the team's base in Hinwil]. It is a new team [for me], so I have been getting to know the people, the engineers, all the people I work closely with. It is quite important.
"I have been impressed with many things and I have really bedded in already with the people and the team. It feels good. It feels like home already. The team works very precisely. It is a good way of working.”
Meanwhile, when asked about the new car, he gave it the initial thumbs up: “It looks good to me - absolutely perfect. You see the colour scheme has changed a bit - it is a bit more grey, a bit darker [than the 2012 Sauber livery]. It looks good and now I am curious to take it out and see how fast it is.”
As for how long it will take him to get use to his new stead, Hulkenberg added: “It depends on how well testing goes, and it also depends on how much experience you have got in F1. It is my third year, so I have got a few kilometres on my shoulders - more experience always helps.
“But once you are through winter testing and get a good programme behind you, you should be in the sweet spot.”
So what is his aim for the season and can he match that top performance in the season-ending Brazilian GP?
“I think of anyone here, probably my own expectations are the highest. That is part of the job, part of F1. I am not worried about that. It is just really an exciting time. The winter training has gone pretty well the last two to three weeks. I have spent a lot of time getting myself in good shape. Now I am really excited about this season and this year.
"I am really looking forward to the start and then finally to being on the grid in Melbourne,” he concluded.
