de la Frontera after Lewis Hamilton
was also forced to curtail his running due to a technical problem.
Just one day after team-mate Nico Rosberg
was forced off the track by an electrical issue that led to a brief fire under his W04, and subsequently had the Mercedes mechanics working through the rest of the day in order to modify parts to avoid a repeat, Hamilton suffered a loss of rear brake pressure, causing him to hit the barriers at the Dry Sack hairpin early in his morning programme.
With repairs required both to the errant part and also the damage incurred when the Briton ploughed through the gravel and into the tyre wall, the Brackley-based team was again denied the opportunity to return to the track.
“To confirm... we will not run again today as work continues with the repairs required on the car,” it announced via its Twitter
feed mid-afternoon, having earlier admitted that there was 'no news as to when we will be back out on track'.
The impact with the barrier damaged the front left corner of the W04, taking out both suspension and associated aero parts, while the cause of the problem, the hydraulic brake line connecting to the right-rear calliper, also had to be investigated.
Hamilton was sitting second on the timesheets at the time of his accident, but had slid back to sixth overall by the time Mercedes conceded that it would be back out on Wednesday afternoon. The Briton remains ahead of his replacement at Mclaren, Sergio Perez, as well as Ferrari's Felipe Massa, largely because the day's focus had switched to slower long runs.
Rosberg is due to return to the cockpit tomorrow (Thursday).
