Fire halts de la Rosa's Ferrari debut

Pedro de la Rosa's first outing as a Ferrari driver lasted just over two laps....
Ferrari's fortunes went from one extreme to the other within an hour of testing getting underway on day four at Jerez, as Pedro de la Rosa had to make a hasty exit from his F138.

After Felipe Massa had topped the times amid solid reliability on day three, de la Rosa suffered the Scuderia's first real issue as his run was cut short by a fire with just two installation laps under his belt. The Spaniard was unharmed in the incident and the blaze was quickly extinguished, before the car was returned to the pits on a rescue vehicle.

Ferrari is currently investigating the cause of the fire, and has issued nothing other than a Twitter message to confirm that its progress has been interrupted.

“Difficult start of the day for de la Rosa,” it wrote, “F138 stopped on track after the second installation lap.”

de la Rosa replaced Massa for the fourth and final day of testing, while team leader Fernando Alonso continues his personal preparation for the 2013 season in Dubai.

What planet are you from Kiko? That Ferrari should never have been in title contention last year but Alonso dragged it there, for me 2012 was Alonso's best season.... Im sure if he was in Seb's Red Bull he would have won by a country mile

Well, I suppose it’s better to have these kind of bugs during pre-season testing than during the season itself. Of course it would’ve been better if something like that wouldn’t have happened at all but you know “s*** happens” even with the best. Hopefully this was the first and the last such problem of this year. Forza Ferrari!!!
