Grosjean seeks consistency

Romain Grosjean says he wants to be a more consistent performer during the 2013 F1 season
Romain Grosjean says he is seeking to be more consistent in the 2013 F1 season on the back of a solid start to pre-season testing at Jerez last week.

The Frenchman set the fourth fastest time of the week for Lotus as the team kicked off its winter testing programme, which will continue next week when the field heads to Catalunya for another four days of running.

Having retained his drive for 2013, Grosjean goes into the new season eager to ensure that he makes the headlines for the right reasons after a year that was beset by a number of incidents on track last year.

Admitting that he had worked hard to improve in all areas over the winter, Grosjean said his main focus was to match consistency to his speed in 2013 to remove some of the errors he has made in the past and to challenge towards the front of the field.

"I have worked on a lot of things since last season - it's difficult to pick out one," he told Sporting Life. "It's no secret, but consistency is what I've been asked for. The speed is there, as it has always been, but the consistency has not always been good.

"It's about finding the right balance, about making the right move when I have to make a move, sometimes being a bit more patient when I am in the car, and finishing more races.

"That's what I'm working on, and I hope it's going to pay off."

Grosjean said he was already more comfortable in the new E21 than he was in last year's car although he was quick to point out that it was only in Australia that the Lotus team would know where it stands.

"Compared to last year the car is not that much different in terms of design and philosophy, but it's a little better in all areas," he said. "It has a good baseline, although we have a few things we want to work on in Barcelona.

"It will be good to get Kimi's feelings to see if they are as the same mine and whether he wants to go in the same direction in terms of set up. But the feelings I have are even better than at the start of last year, which is a good point to start with.

"Let's hope it continues to be the case and it's quick, although the real answer will be in Melbourne."
