Wolff: female F1 driver 'will definitely happen'
"But I think we all know how competitive F1 is, how many drivers are fighting for a chance to be on that grid," she admitted. "I don't want to come out with any bold statements or dream of saying 'yes, I want to be on the grid next year'.

"I'm in the right direction, I'm taking each step at the time, I'm showing the guys in the team what I can do.' she added. "But let's see how it goes, I'm taking each step at a time. For sure a superlicence is the next thing on the to-do list, so let's see."

As a woman whose dream is to reach the pinnacle of motorsport, I certainly do hope we see women in F1 soon. But I hope they are there because of their talent, and not their connections or willingness to take their kit off. That hurts the advancement of women in sport more than anything.

The road to Formula 1 is littered with drivers who couldn't hack it, or had the talent but not the opportunity, etc.,. These days a driver has to be something extraordinary to even get to Formula 1, much less stay there, and sometimes even that is not enough. Even so, I'm sure we will see a woman on the top step of the podium, but it may not be right away.

The road to Formula 1 is littered with extremely talented drivers who couldn't get backing, work the politics, get sponsorship, or had a teammate that played dirty These days a driver doesn't have to be something extraordinary.... just has to have money....
