Marussia expects to have to seek an alternative engine deal for the 2014 F1 season
Marussia expects engine change
Marussia sporting director Graeme Lowdon has revealed the team is looking for a new engine supplier for the 2014 F1 season after seeming to confirm that Cosworth will leave the sport after 2013.

Marussia is now the only Cosworth powered team left on the grid following the demise of HRT, with Caterham and Wiliams having both switched to Renault supplies last year.

New engine regulations are due to come into force next year with suggestions that Cosworth wasn't planning to develop a powerplant to the new rules.

Lowdon has now appeared to confirm that those suggestions are indeed correct, which would leave the team to try and secure a deal with Mercedes, Ferrari or Renault.

"My understanding is that Cosworth won't be making a 2014 engine," he was quoted as saying during the latest FOTA Fans' Forum event in Barcelona prior to the final test of the winter getting underway. "Obviously I don't work for Cosworth, but that is my understanding. The three suppliers will be Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari."

Marussia aren't the only team said to be considering its options in terms of its engine supply, with questions having also been raised about Force India and Toro Rosso.

The idea put forward that the new greener turbo engines would encourage more major manufactures into F1 has proved totally groundless and goes to prove the point I have been making that this is a totally unnecessary waste of money and if they really have to do it to prove how lovely and green they are it could have been delayed until the World economy improves enough to encourage more teams and manufactures to come into F1. Don't hold yout breath anyone!
