Rosberg keeps Mercedes top in Spain

Pastor Maldonado only ran during the morning for Williams ended up seventh ahead of defending champion Sebastian Vettel; the German not worrying about chasing a quick time as he concluded his programme with a best time 2.3secs off the pace.

Valtteri Bottas was ninth for Williams with less than a tenth of a second behind Charles Pic and Jules Bianchi behind.

“I'm pleased with how the last day of testing has gone,” Pic said. “We've finished everything we planned for this test and completed 116 laps today, including a race simulation and full pitstops so we've done everything we can to prepare for the start of the season in a couple of weeks.

“It was also important to use the tests to familiarise myself with the whole team. I've really enjoyed working with everyone – there's a good atmosphere inside the team and we're realistic about what we can achieve this year so we'll go into the season with a good spirit and aim to take advantage of anything that comes our way when the races start.”

Daniel Ricciardo and Max Chilton completed the 13 drivers to take the track, with the latter returning to action for the afternoon after taking over from Bianchi at the wheel of the Marussia.

@ tealeaf why don't you wait awhile before you start with your negative predictions. If you are so good at predictions maybe you should try your hand at the lottery and then you might have a little peace in your little mind.

I like the fact that Hamilton is rated highly even by his haters. This guy just joined the Mercedes and hasn't even started real racing, still getting used to the car and setup, yet you expect him to beat Rosberg who has been in the car for how many years? If you asked me i would say Hamilton actually showed his class there by producing such a speed in a car he is hardly even used to. Makes you wonder what he will do when he gets used to the car.
