Wolff confirms Kubica 'helping' Mercedes

Toto Wolff confirms that Robert Kubica is 'helping' Mercedes after a recent run in its simulator - and doesn't rule out an F1 test if the Pole is up to it in future
Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff has confirmed that Robert Kubica is helping' the team having recently sampled its simulator.

Kubica is still recovering from the injuries he sustained in an accident while taking part in a rally in Italy back in 2011 and is returning to competitive action this season with an entry into the WRC2 class of the World Rally Championship alongside selected rounds of the European Rally Championship.

The Pole has admitted that he doesn't know if he will ever get the chance to return to an F1 machine, but has been in the Mercedes simulator in Brackley in recent weeks.

While no details have emerged on how much time Kubica spent in the simulator, Wollf confirmed to the BBC that the former BMW Sauber and Renault man was helping the team and said he would welcome the chance to give the 28-year-old a run in an F1 car if he was able to drive one in future alongside his rally programme.

Mercedes gave Kubica the chance to sample a DTM car earlier this year.

"If there's any chance of getting him back in a DTM touring car or F1 cockpit, we'd love to do it," Wolff said. "Any team would love to have a Robert Kubica.

"He is somebody I have known for ten years but it's absolutely his call how he wants to help us and his main focus is rallying. This is where he wants to be successful and what he wants to do in the future."
