Da Costa focuses on F1 future

Antonio Felix Da Costa says he remains hopeful of securing a drive in F1 for the 2014 season
Antonio Felix Da Costa says he is focused on trying to secure a place on the F1 grid for the 2014 season having secured the chance to act as one of the test and reserve drivers for Red Bull's F1 programmes.

The Portuguese racer, who is a member of Red Bull's Young Driver Programme, replaced Sebastien Buemi as reserve driver in China while Buemi was taking part in the opening round of the World Endurance Championship season at Silverstone with Toyota.

Da Costa is likely to take up the role again later in the year when Buemi is unavailable for the Singapore race due his sportscar commitments, and the 21-year-old said he was hopeful that his close ties with Red Bull would put him in a good position if a drive with Toro Rosso was to become available next year.

"I am very happy with this strategy," da Costa, who is competing in the Renault World Series with the Arden Caterham team this season, told the APA news agency. "This is a key year - we're very close to Formula One now and my goal is clearly to be there next year. For this I want to win the Renault World Series. The timing is perfect and I feel very well prepared."

Da Costa currently sits fourth in the World Series standings, having taken victory during the opening round at Monza but having failed to score in two of the remaining three races.
