Perez welcomes extra DRS zone in Spain

Sergio Perez: I hope that the introduction of two DRS zones at Barcelona will help improve the racing.
McLaren driver Sergio Perez has backed the decision to have two DRS zones at the Spanish Grand Prix next weekend and is hopeful the changes will help improve the spectacle.

Historically the races at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya aren't always the best, and overtaking at the 4.655 kilometre track can be somewhat limited. However, Perez believes the extra DRS zone – Drag Reduction System zone – is a real positive.

“I hope that the introduction of two DRS zones at Barcelona will help improve the racing,” he said in the countdown to the fifth round in the 2013 F1 World Championship. “We saw in both China and Bahrain that F1 cars can race really closely if they are under the right conditions; Barcelona has always been a difficult circuit for overtaking, so I hope the new regulations will improve matters.

“It would be great for the thousands in the grandstands if there were some spectacular overtaking along the main straight.”

Perez meanwhile reckons the event will be beneficial for McLaren as the team looks to progress and improve the troublesome MP4-28.

“It'll be a good place to test the car as it's a very demanding circuit aerodynamically. We have a lot of historic data from our testing there, and we'll get a good read on our performance when we start testing next Friday,” he continued. “It should be a very useful weekend for us in terms of understanding the MP4-28 and the direction forwards that we choose to take.”

“I'm also looking forward to having my first European race for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes,” he concluded.

Pirrelli's garbage tyres are already enough "spectacle" as it is, the DRS is a "spectacle" overload. Im sure most will understand what im trying to say.
