Alonso tight lipped on Allison to Ferrari rumours

9 May 2013

Fernando Alonso has refused to speculate on rumours James Allison is on his way to Ferrari.

Allison's departure from Lotus was confirmed on Thursday [see separate story], but while he has been linked to a number of teams, including McLaren and Mercedes, the Scuderia has emerged as the favourite to land the technical guru.

“I don't really have an opinion on that,” Alonso told reporters when asked if he would like to work with Allison again and if he could tempt him to Maranello. “He will chose what he prefers. He may chose to stay at home. I don't know. We just know the news from yesterday and we don't have any more news.

"For sure, I worked very closely with him and was World Champion with him two times [in 2005 and in 2006 at Renault].

“Then I came back to Renault in 2008/9; in 2009 he was already technical director and we were not so successful with that car, but we saw the Lotus car in the last two years [is very competitive] and [there is] no secret that he's one of the top men. We will see what future he has.”

“I would like to work with all the technical directors!” Alonso added, when pressed on the subject. “It would be nice to have all of them in our team and see how our competitors create their cars, but this is impossible. We are working well and this year things are going much better so we are happy with what we have but it's always welcome, any extra help.”

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo meanwhile has also denied the rumours.

“I know nothing,” he told the Italian press, “so I cannot deny anything. As far as I know, these are just rumours. I will say something if there is something to say.”
