Red Bull F1 designer Adrian Newey will return to the cockpit of a Lamborghini Gallardo to race in the Super Trofeo event supporting the Blancpain Endurance Series at Silverstone this weekend.

Newey will pilot the #1 VIP car amid a highly competitive grid split neatly between the established Pro-Am experience of series leader C?dric Leimer, former GP2 ace Adrian Zaugg and Andrea Amici, and a rising crop of young amateur talent including Andrea Solim?.

The outing will be the second in as many year's for Newey, who will share the guest car alongside Alberto Sabbatini, the editor-in-chief of Italian magazine Autosprint, and the Briton admits that he is an unabashed fan of the Lamborghini marque, since having been captivated by the opening frames of The Italian Job at a local cinema at the tender age of ten.

Last year's opportunity to compete in two races in a Gallardo fulfilled a long-held childhood dream, and made it easy to accept a return in 2013. The 54-year old is a capable amateur racer, having competed at the Le Mans 24 Hours and, in 2010, driven his own Red Bull Racing RB5 F1 race car - a gift from the team - at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Newey will, however, be hoping for better conditions than he suffered last June, when he finished 11th and 15th in a pair of wet races.
