Sauber rookie, Esteban Gutierrez, says he needs to improve his qualifying performances to ensure he benefits from the cars strong race pace on Sunday's.

The Mexican, who came third in last season's GP2 Series Championship, has struggled so far this season and is yet to register a point's finish.

Gutierrez says knows he must perform better in qualifying to make the most of the Sauber's pace on race day: "What I can say is that I have to improve in qualifying," he told

"Getting a perfect lap - that is something I still have to work on. In the race it hasn't been that bad - the speed has actually been pretty good. When I spoke of balance before, getting the right balance between qualifying and race is high on my agenda."

Gutierrez admits it will take time to adjust to the fast paced world of Formula One, and has targeted extracting the most from his car as the main target this season.

"If you know that your car is capable of finishing in tenth, 11th or 15th position, then being able to deliver that result - and hopefully at times doing better by taking advantage of the mistakes of others - is what brings the real achievement and what is important is to move on to higher levels." he added.
