Bottas hopes Canada proved a point

13 June 2013

Valtteri Bottas says he hopes he was able to prove a point with his performance in the Canadian Grand Prix, despite once again failing to open his account in Montreal.

The Finn produced one of the star performances of the season so far in qualifying to line up third on the grid after a session held in challenging weather conditions.

Come race day, Bottas was unable to maintain that position as he slipped down the field, but he said he was hopeful that his qualifying display had shown what he can do.

"Let's hope this continues,” he told MTV3 when asked if he hope to remain with the team despite its recent struggles. “There's no point thinking about it too much. The best thing I can do is focus on the race and do my best. Things then go in the direction you want them to go.

"I think Canada was good for me in that I was able to show my skills. Hopefully it proved that I deserve a place."

Bottas has a best finish of eleventh so far this season and has taken the chequered flag in each of the seven races run to date.

The Finn has also shown himself to be more than a match for Williams team-mate Pastor Maldonado, who he heads in the standings thanks to a superior finishing record.
