Webber admits Aussies will struggle

Mark Webber is bracing himself for a tough few weeks supporting his sporting countrymen.
Mark Webber has conceded that his adopted home may have the upper hand over the land of his birth when it comes to two of the biggest sporting series outside of this summer's F1 world championship.

While Webber remains locked in battle with Britain's Lewis Hamilton in terms of F1 points, he fears that his native Australia could struggle to beat British rivals in both cricket's Ashes and the rugby clashes between the Wallabies and the British Lions.

While agreeing with the general concensus that this year's Australian cricket tourists could be the weakest squad for some time, the Red Bull driver is only a little more confident when it comes to assessing the three-match rugby series which kicks off 'down under' later this morning [Saturday 22 June].

"The cricket isn't looking good," he admitted to Crash.net, "I don't think we've got a prayer there, but I think the rugby will be closer.

"I even think Australia will win the first game - but the Lions will win the other two..."

Webber will look to continue his own love affair with the British Grand Prix next weekend, having won the event in both 2010 and again last year.

"I think the 2010 victory was pretty special as it was my first British GP win," the veteran reflected, "It's the home race for a lot of the team and it's my second home race as I live in the UK.

"The fans here are right up there with the Italian tifosi. F1 has been an integral part of UK motorsport for such a long time, [and] the Silverstone GP is a brilliant weekend. It's such a prestigious event and that's why it's so nice to get a great result there."

Having raced around Silverstone, in all its recent forms, since his Formula Ford days, Webber is well-acquainted with the venue.

"It's an old school circuit, fast and flowing," he explained, "It's very demanding on the driver in terms of accuracy, and the car also. You can really let the car go around there and feel like you're a F1 driver."
