Giedo van der Garde is set to return to the scene of not only one of his 2012 F1 appearances, but also of one of the more significant moments in his life, having been confirmed on the roster of stars for the forthcoming City Racing Rotterdam event in August.
The only Dutch driver currently competing in the top flight completed his first F1 demonstration during last year's City Racing festival and, quite aside from the thrill of driving a grand prix car on the streets, harbours warm memories of the event as, during his final lap, he stopped and, after a burn-out on the Willemsbridge, stepped out of the cockpit to ask his fiancée to marry him as hundreds of thousands visitors witnessing this emotional moment.
The Caterham driver surprised almost as many people four weeks ago as he progressed to Q2 at the Monaco Grand Prix, and is currently preparing for this weekend's race at Silverstone, but is also looking forward to returning to the largest autosport event in the Netherlands on Sunday 18 August.
“Last year was the first time that I ran the Caterham F1 car through the streets of Rotterdam and it was a unique experience,” he reflected, “To drive past half a
million people was a dream come true and I promise that this year's demonstration will even be better!”
“We are very proud that Giedo will again entertain the hundreds of thousands race fans in Rotterdam and the VIP village on the Willemsbridge, and I am sure that he will touch the emotions again and give an unforgettable experience to these fans,” event organiser Robert Heilbron added, “We will announce more participants in the coming weeks, and the focus during this ninth edition will be on the link between fun and technology.”
