British Grand Prix: Raikkonen: We won’t be far away

Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean hope to be closer to the pace at Silverstone
Kimi Raikkonen says he expects Lotus to be closer to the pace at Silverstone following Friday practice for the British Grand Prix.

The Finn was 13th quickest after the second session, with the first having been all but washed out by the weather.

Running with Lotus' 'Device' fitted to his car, the Finn declared himself pleased with the opening day of running and said he felt the team wouldn't be far away from the front.

“We're reasonably happy with everything today,” he said. “We put quite a lot of effort into testing the new Device with feels pretty okay. I only ran with the development and hard tyre so didn't go for a faster lap, but it didn't feel too bad and we can work out where everything will be once we put it all together.

“I don't think we're one of the very quickest, but I don't think we'll be too far away.”

Team-mate Romain Grosjean was ninth fastest and the Frenchman also said he was confident of an improved showing after a tough weekend in Montreal last time out.

“It was a solid day here at Silverstone,” he said. “Thankfully, the rain stopped for this afternoon and we could get some good laps in so we can make a call on setup and configuration for tomorrow.

“It's hard to say exactly where the car is due to the conditions we had, plus we ran with a lot of different tyres so my engineers will have a busy evening checking the info to work out what's best. The car feels good; I think if we can improve in a few areas we could be well placed for qualifying.”
