British Grand Prix: Strategy will have to be impeccable – Alonso

Fernando Alonso: Our programme for today was no different to usual and as normal, it was important to gather data relating to tyre behaviour, which here too will be the key factor
Fernando Alonso believes Ferrari will have to get the strategy spot on if they are to do well in the 2013 F1 British Grand Prix.

The Spaniard was tenth quickest on the first day, and with team-mate Felipe Massa going off early in FP2, his work took on greater significance, especially given conditions were so wet this morning.

In the end he did 36 laps in total, his best - a 1 minute 33.494 seconds, which left him over a second off the pace.

“This morning, we lost the first session because of the rain and had to squeeze all the work we had been unable to do into the afternoon session,” Alonso said after FP2.

“Our programme for today was no different to usual and as normal, it was important to gather data relating to tyre behaviour, which here too will be the key factor. At Silverstone, you need an aerodynamic package that is suited to the combination of fast corners that are the main feature at this track.

“The strategy will have to be impeccable and in order to make the right choice for the race, we will have to take into account the fact that on Sunday we can expect very different conditions to those we saw today, because the track will definitely be drier and the temperatures higher”.

Alonso has now slammed the team and Pirelli. He is mad at the tire selection for the race and socked the team in the gut for poorly performing upgrades. Heads should start rolling soon at Big Red.
