British Grand Prix: Rosberg handed reprimand, keeps win

Nico Rosberg keeps Silverstone win, despite ignoring yellow flags
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has been reprimanded after it emerged he failed to slow for yellow flags en-route to his British Grand Prix victory.

Rosberg was summoned to appear before the stewards two hours after the finish of the race at Silverstone, the eighth round in the 2013 F1 World Championship, when it was confirmed he was guilty of speeding between turns three and five at 14.06 hours local time – around the time Sebastian Vettel ground to a halt.

However, while the stewards did say there was 'no evidence of a significant reduction in speed' as required by the rules, they opted not to impose any sort of time penalty and thus the result stands.

Speaking prior to being called to face the stewards, Rosberg said it was 'special' to win the race.

He also revealed that he had an issue with the Pirelli tyres, just like team-mate, Lewis Hamilton and a number of other drivers, however, he obviously didn't suffer a catastrophic blow out.

“This is a great moment for me and our team to win in the home of motor racing at Silverstone. We have such great momentum in our Silver Arrows team and I'm very proud to be part of it,” he remarked. “This win is for every single person who has been involved in building our car. It was a shame for Lewis today, and I had also a problem with my tyre but I was lucky because of the Safety Car [as we could stop and put on fresh rubber].”

“It was so special to win today, especially in front of fellow team members and their families as our factory is only ten minutes away from the track. The race was really exciting. I had to manage the tyres really carefully, I was told to avoid the kerbs,” he continued.

“At the end, it was difficult to hold off Mark [Webber] and to look after my tyres but I was able to keep the position, and take a great victory for us. Now we can look forward to another home race next weekend at the Nurburgring,” concluded the German.

Not slowing for yellow flags is supposed to be against the rules, in-season testing is supposed to be against the rules. No penalty for either. What's the deal between Merc and the FiA?
