Di Resta focused on job at hand

3 July 2013

Paul di Resta says he is fully focused on the job at hand as the Scot seeks to put himself in the shop window for a top drive for the 2014 F1 season.

Another strong recovery drive at Silverstone saw di Resta come from the back of the field to maintain a run of form that has seen him score points in every race bar one this season – helping Force India to sit fifth in the constructors' championship.

The Silverstone-based team has already suggested that it wouldn't stand in the 26-year-old's way if a top team came calling, with Red Bull having a vacancy following the news that Mark Webber is to quit the sport, and the possibility that drives could also be available with the likes of Lotus and Ferrari at the conclusion of the season.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has already played down the chances of di Resta partnering Sebastian Vettel next year and di Resta said his focus was firmly producing the goods through the rest of the year to show he is worthy of a race-winning seat.

"There's nothing I can do,” he was quoted by the Press Association. β€œIt is what it is. I'm only trying to do what I can do. I've built my reputation in Formula One. I want to be in a winning seat, but it's down to the decision of the boards of other teams.

"I've still a lot of races with Force India this year so I'll keep concentrating on that and let other people do the work in the background.

"Where I am next year I don't know, but there are many points up for grabs. That is the important bit - keeping your reputation high."

Of the various options that may be available, Di Resta did admit however that he would jump at the chance to line up on the grid for Ferrari if the opportunity arose.

"You would jump at it, definitely," he said. "Obviously it's every boy's dream as they grow up to get in a Ferrari at some point in their life, and being Italian is a nice thing, having the Italian blood.

"But I will concentrate on my job and let other people do their job.”
