Rosberg not thinking about title

4 July 2013

Nico Rosberg says he isn't thinking about launching a bid for the F1 title despite his recent run of success.

The Mercedes man made it two wins in the last three races with victory last time out at Silverstone and now sits 50 points behind leader Sebastian Vettel in the standings.

Rosberg's British GP victory also helped Mercedes to go second behind Red Bull in the constructors' championship but the 28-year-old insisted it was too early for him to start thinking about launching a bit for the title through the remainder of the season.

“It's too early to say that,” he replied when asked if he could fight for the crown. “We are just trying to focus on keeping our current momentum going at the moment and are trying to get the most we can from one race to the next.

“That is what we have done in recent races and they have been fantastic for me. We'll see what happens in the next few races but I don't want to speak about the title – yet.

“Short term, I just want to annoy Sebastian and Red Bull on a race-by-race basis by being ahead of them and the other teams. We need to try and win more races. That is our current focus.”

Despite downplaying his title chances, Rosberg admitted that the current season was proving to be the best of his career to date.

“This is a nice time in my career,” he said. “I've never had a car as quick as it is now and haven't gone into every race knowing that I can fight for a position near the front in qualifying. We are getting better in the races so the chances of keeping that qualifying position are improving. It's been very motivating.”
