KERS scare for Williams

Williams confirms a smoky KERS failure on Pastor Maldonado's car ahead of Saturday morning practice at the Nurburgring.
There was a dramatic start to day two of the German Grand prix for the Williams team, which revealed that it had suffered a KERS failure while setting Pastor Maldonado's car up for final practice at the Nurburgring.

A statement from the team confirmed that the incident occurred at 08.30 local time, while the Venezuelan's car was in the garage. The resulting smoke was contained 'quickly and efficiently' by the team and circuit fire marshals, and, fortunately, no personnel on either side were injured.

With a couple of hours between the incident and final practice, Williams set about investigating the cause of the failure, and assessing any further damage to Maldonado's car.

The team, of course, suffered a dramatic garage fire following Maldonado's victory in the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix, thought to have been caused by a spark from the Venezuelan's KERS unit while the car was being broken down.
