German Grand Prix: Everything went right today, says Grosjean

Romain Grosjean: It was pretty special when I was leading the race and returning to the podium is naturally a good thing
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean was delighted after finishing on the podium in the German Grand Prix, despite having to relinquish second late on.

The Frenchman has endured a difficult run of late and failed to score in Spain, Monaco, Canada and Britain. However he put that behind him at the Nurburgring, and after qualifying fourth ran strongly all afternoon - even leading at one point, before eventually taking third to repeat what he accomplished in Bahrain back in April.

“After some difficult races, everything went right today and it was pretty special when I was leading the race and returning to the podium is naturally a good thing,” Grosjean said after the ninth round in the 2013 F1 World Championship.

“My car felt great on the first stint with the soft tyres and it's clear that the summer weather really suits us.

“Hopefully we'll have a long summer now in Europe!”

Grosjean had been on course to take second, however, with 5 laps to go he got the call from the pits and was reminded not to hold up team-mate, Kimi Raikkonen.

“Letting Kimi past at the end of the race was the sensible thing to do as we were on different strategies and he had more of a chance of going for the win than I did at that point,” Grosjean explained when quizzed on the late change of positions and how he felt to be told to give up P2.

“We didn't know which tyre would be the best at the end of the race, so we didn't [want to] put all our eggs in one basket,” he added diplomatically.
