Ferrari 'retains confidence' in Massa

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo says he has faith in Felipe Massa but insists his team has to make improvements to keep its F1 title dreams alive
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo insists that he has total confidence in Felipe Massa despite the Brazilian's early exit from the German Grand Prix.

Having made a fine start, Massa was forced into retirement after just three laps when he suffered a spin at turn one and stalled his car, preventing him from then rejoining and leading to his third no-score of the year.

It marked the second successive race in which the 32-year-old had been unable to build on a strong start after his puncture at Silverstone, but di Montezemolo insisted that he retained the full backing of the team around him as he works to try and secure his long-term future with the Scuderia.

“Felipe is fully aware he can count on our total confidence in him,” he said. “I hope he will soon secure the results that will show his talent to the full, such as the great starts he pulled off at the last two Grands Prix.

“The future? We will talk about that further down the line as there's no hurry.”

Despite giving Massa his backing however, di Montezemolo added that the time had come for more action and less talking from Ferrari as it seeks to try and keep pace with Red Bull in the title race.

“We have looked at the agenda for the coming weeks of work to clarify the priorities along with the engineers,” he said. “Now I ask of everyone a greater determination and strong concentration on every detail. I have enormous faith in the team and I expect a concrete response from everyone, because only through great will and plenty of work will it be possible to come away with the results that we all want.

“To sum up: fewer words and more achievements.”

complete failure of domenicali and montezemelo to win a championship after 2007 (with jean todt). Utter lack of leadership. Hiring FA has not helped them in championships. Further demotivating Massa for months has taken a huge toll on him. He no longer thinks and acts like an grand prix winner. Looks like ferrari needs new drivers, new team management . I dont support Ferrari, but they are absolutely essential for Formula 1 brand
