Honda confirms UK base for F1 return

11 July 2013

Honda has confirmed that it will base its F1 operation in the UK when it returns to the sport.

Honda will become engine supplier to McLaren from 2015 onwards after a partnership was confirmed earlier this year, marking Honda's return to the F1 arena for the first time since withdrawing its own team at the conclusion of the 2008 campaign.

While the development and build of the new F1 engines will be carried out at Honda's R&D facility in Tochigi in Japan, any further work will then be carried out at the new base in Milton Keynes, where Honda's trackside support operations will also be based.

The new facility is due to be up and running by June next year.

“With the confirmation of a new F1 operation base in UK, our preparation to join F1 has become more specific and concrete,” chief officer of motorsports Yasuhisa Arai said.

“To meet and exceed the expectations of our fans, we will accelerate our development to bring back the unique Honda engine sound onto the track.”

Milton Keynes is already home to the Red Bull Racing team.
