Young Drivers Test: Calado gets Force India opportunity

James Calado has been included on Force India's testing schedule for this week's Young Driver session at Silverstone.
Sahara Force India has revealed that it will give GP2 Series frontrunner James Calado a maiden F1 test outing at this week's Silverstone group session.

While the 'home' team will take advantage of the revised test rules to run both its race drivers, Calado has been confirmed alongside Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil as Force India complies with the 'young driver' element of the session's initial premise.

Calado is no stranger to an F1 car, having already driven the current VJM06 during straight-line aero testing, but the Silverstone test will allow the 24-year old to get further mileage in a proper group test setting. The Briton will share driving duties with di Resta and Sutil across all three days of the test, although the exact schedule will be confirmed each morning.

“We are pleased to give James the opportunity to test with us at Silverstone,” team principal Vijay Mallya commented, “As a graduate of the Racing Steps Foundation, his talent and determination have brought him to our attention and this is the ideal occasion to evaluate him further. The priority this week is to give the team a better understanding of the new Pirelli tyres due to be introduced next week in Budapest.”

Calado enjoyed his best GP2 weekend of the season with two podium appearances last time out at the Nurburgring, and currently sits fifth in the overall points table.

No Alonso at the young driver test and McLaren aren't taking Button or Perez. Massa, Kimi and Vettel are driving on Friday. Webber, Hulk and Ricciardo are driving on Thursday. Max Chilton is driving on Wednesday if you're into that sort of thing.
