The FIA has added an extra DRS activation zone at the Hungaroring for this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

F1's sporting authority revealed on Tuesday that DRS will be available to drivers for use just after turn 1 on the 2.722-mile, 14-corner track. That's in addition to the DRS activation zone that starts after turn 14 just before the start/finish line.

There will still be just one detection zone for the DRS system, immediately before the entry into turn 14. If a driver is within one second of a car in front then he'll be able to use his DRS system in both activation zones.

The second DRS zone is relatively short, extending from the exit of turn 1 through the 1a 'kink' and ending just before the cars go into turn 2, but might allow drivers to make more overtaking passes on the back of the first DRS zone that runs the length of the front straight.

Despite its tight and twisting nature normally thought to make overtaking difficult and often compared with Monaco for its level of difficulty, the Hungaroring has only been won twice from pole position since 2005 - both times by Lewis Hamilton for McLaren, in 2007 and 2012. With a further victory in 2009, Hamilton is just one win shy of matching Michael Schumacher's record of successes at the circuit.

The Hungaroring has featured on the F1 calendar since 1986. This will be the 28th consecutive running of the race, putting it third on the list of circuits to host the most consecutive F1 world championship races, beaten only by Monaco (59) and Monza (32).

Other changes to the circuit since last year's event are the addition of a new debris fence has been installed, on the left behind the guardrail on the pit straight, and a new drainage system to the the kerbs at the exit of turns 3, 8 and 9. However with the forecast set to be scorchingly hot and sunny - with temperatures set to reach 39C (102F) this weekend - it's rather unlikely that the drains will come into play during this year's race.

Pirelli will be bringing new-specification tyres to the event to address concerns about a recent spate of tyre blow-outs. The tyres were tested successfully at Silverstone during last week's Young Drivers Test.

There will also be changes to pit lane safety protocols starting with Hungary, which includes a requirement for head protection by all team members and an immediate ban on anyone other than event marshals and team personnel being present in pit lane during races and grand prix qualifying sessions. The pit lane speed limit during races had been cut from 100km/h to 80km/h which will impact team strategies with regards to pit stops.

It's also been announced that FIA Institute Deputy President Garry Connelly, FIA Vice President Jose Abed and former F1 driver and 2013 Le Mans winner Allan McNish will be this weekend's race stewards.
