James Allison's destination following his departure from Lotus has been the subject of much speculation, but that has finally been laid to rest by official confirmation that he will be joining Ferrari.
After reports linking the British designer to various rivals, as well as Honda – where he was rumoured to have been in charge of designing a 'test car' ahead of the company's reunion with McLaren
– Allison will be heading for Maranello as the latest addition charged with bringing the Scuderia back into title contention following years of Red Bull
“Ferrari announces that, as from this coming 1 September, James Allison will join the Scuderia in the role of chassis technical director,” a brief statement from the Prancing Horse confirmed, “At the same time, Pat Fry will take on the new position of director of engineering. Both men will report directly to the team principal of the Gestione Sportiva, Stefano Domenicali.”
The move marks a return to Maranello for Allison, who previously worked with Ferrari
prior to joining the Renault
team that eventually morphed into Lotus a couple of seasons ago.
