The Mercedes AMG Petronas team has released audio of its new-for-2014 F1 engine as it continues to develop the unit ahead of its competition debut next season.

The unique insight came via the team's official YouTube channel, and saw the soundtrack accompany a simulated lap of the Monza circuit which will play host to the Italian Grand Prix next month.

The audio recording of the turbocharged V6 unit was conducted using a development engine at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) in Brixworth in the UK, and was then to a lap of the circuit at the team's 'driver-in-the-loop' simulator at team HQ in Brackley.

The result is claimed to be the most accurate impression so far of how the new power units - the 'official term' for next year's 1.6-litre turbocharged engines - will sound in 2014, with a maximum rev limit of 15,000 rpm and a single turbocharger spinning at speeds of up to 125,000 rpm.
