Button has faith in Pirelli, says tyres will be fine in Belgium

Jenson Button: Spa is the first high-speed circuit after Silverstone. But I don't have any worries about the tyres.
McLaren's Jenson Button has said he will go to the Belgian Grand Prix later this month with no concerns whatsoever about the tyres.

Following all the blow-outs at the British Grand Prix at the end of June, something JB admitted was 'pretty scary', Pirelli hasn't experienced any problems since, and after making modifications for Germany and for Hungary, Button isn't expecting any further issues, although the race at Spa-Francorchamps will be the first on a high-speed track since Silverstone.

“Tyres have been a big talking point this year,” Button said in an interview with Mobil 1 – The Grid. “Pirelli have had a difficult time in terms of what happened at Silverstone with the failures. It was obviously a pretty scary time for the drivers and the marshals and the fans. But I think they have done a great job of turning it around.

“Bringing a different tyre to the German GP only four days later for everyone to use was great.

"Spa is the first high-speed circuit after Silverstone. But I don't have any worries about the tyres. These tyres are like what we used in 2012 [now]. They have the 2012 construction and we know it is going to work.

“We have no worries there.”

Button meanwhile reiterated that the Belgian Grand Prix could be a good weekend for him and McLaren.

“Spa is a circuit that I have always loved. Obviously I won the race there last year. I think there is a good possibility we can get a reasonable result. It is a lower downforce circuit, which I think will suit us better.

“We will see,” he concluded.
