Fans of historic motorsport - and vintage F1 machines in particular - should mark this Thursday (15 August) in their diaries.

That is the date of the first airing of footage from this year's record-breaking Silverstone Classic event, which included a packed grid from the FIA Masters Historic F1 series, as well as classes for other Pre-'61 and Pre-'66 machinery, alongside the traditional tin-top and sportscar fare.

July's extravaganza confirmed the event's status as 'the world's biggest classic motor racing festival', with an unprecedented 1113 entries contesting 24 races across the full spectrum of motorsport history. Now, a dedicated one-hour programme captures much of the on-track action, as well as putting the focus on the enormous number of classic cars on display and the other attractions that make the Classic such a special spectacle.

Whisper Films - the production company co-owned by former BBC F1 cohorts David Coulthard and Jake Humphrey - had the unenviable task of squeezing all the entertainment into a single stand-alone show, but the result is a programme hosted by Louise Goodman, and featuring interviews with motorsport legends Derek Bell, Sir Jackie Stewart and Murray Walker amongst others.

Coverage of the 2013 Silverstone Classic will air on ITV4 in the UK at 9pm on Thursday 15 August.
