Mallya expects return to form
20 August 2013
Sahara Force India team boss Vijay Mallya says he is confident that his team will return to form this weekend in Belgium after a run of poor results prior to the summer break.
Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil failed to score in Germany and Hungary to leave the Silverstone-based team on a low going into the enforced shutdown, although it retained fifth place in the championship ahead of McLaren.
Force India now heads into a race where it has traditionally performed well seeking to return to form, with a need to get on top of the latest Pirelli tyres being key to its chances of success.
Speaking ahead of the Spa race, Mallya insisted that the team was keen to 'unleash the potential' in its car and return to the kind of form displayed earlier in the season.
“Getting on top of the new tyres is certainly a challenge and an area we are focussed on, but it's the same for everyone,” he said. “With nine races to go and a close battle in the championship it's vital that we are competitive on all tracks.
“Tyres have played a very important role this year from race one onwards. We were on top of the tyre game up until Silverstone and then in Germany and Hungary we have struggled with the new tyres. We need to get on top of that and there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to. We just need time and I'm quite optimistic that we will come back strong.
“The car has to be competitive on all tracks, but if I concede that Hungary was not ideally suited to us, by the same token Spa and Monza have traditionally been our stronger tracks. So that gives me a little bit of a morale boost in saying that once we are on top of the game, we should restore our competitive position.”
