Belgian Grand Prix: Hamilton seeks to maintain form

Lewis Hamilton hopes to maintain the form he showed before the summer break when the F1 season resumes at Spa
Lewis Hamilton says he hopes to maintain the form he showed towards the end of the opening half of the F1 season when racing resumes this weekend at Spa.

The Briton went into the summer break on a high thanks to his first win in Mercedes colours in Hungary, where he also qualified on pole for the third successive race.

Hamilton has in Belgium in the past having taken victory back in 2010, although he has failed to finish the race for the past two seasons.

With confidence on a high, the Briton insisted he couldn't wait to get back behind the wheel and was eager to add to his win tally through the second half of the campaign.

“It feels like I have been out of the car for a very long time since the win in Hungary and I can't wait to get going again,” he said. “I was at the factory yesterday to meet up with my engineers and get in some practice on the simulator so it was nice to see everyone and to feel the enthusiasm around the factory after the summer break.

“Spa is a fantastic circuit and it's so much fun to drive. We're all looking forward to the second half of the season and the opportunity to bring home some more good results.”

Team boss Ross Brawn agreed that the aim for Spa was very much to build on Hamilton's success last time out in Budapest.

“After a well-deserved summer break, the factory has been a hive of activity this week as we prepare for the Belgian Grand Prix and the start of the second half of the Formula One season,” he said. “There has been a lot of work to achieve in a very short time to make sure we are ready for the weekend and everyone has been working hard.

“Spa is one of Formula One's most historic circuits with its characteristics loved by drivers, fans and the teams alike, and we often see some exciting and dramatic racing there. As usual, we will have a unique aerodynamic package adapted to the Spa layout. We finished the first half of the season on a high and will be aiming for an equally strong second half.”
