Sirotkin to debut in Sochi demo

Sergey Sirotkin to get his first taste of F1 machinery in a demonstration event in Sochi
Sauber has confirmed that Russian teenager Sergey Sirotkin will make his debut in F1 machinery in a demonstration run in Sochi next month.

The 17-year-old spent two days at the Sauber factory this weekend to gain his first glimpse into the inner workings of the Swiss team.

Sirotkin was able to meet the team's engineers to gain a better understanding of the technology involved in the sport and also had a seat fitting in the car he will now drive in a special event in Sochi on 27th September.

The demonstration run, arranged to coincide with the 12th International Investment Forum, will see Sirotkin drive on the new circuit being created for the inaugural Russian GP, which is due to take place next year.

"We are proud to be doing the demo run next month,” Sauber chief Monisha Kaltenborn said. “It will be a historical moment when a Russian driver drives a Formula One car for the first time at the track in Sochi.”

Sirotkin himself said he was pleased to have the chance to visit the Sauber factory as the first step on his F1 career.

“My visit to the Sauber F1 Team headquarters was busy,” he said. “I learned a lot about the team and many other things. I had a seat fitting, met the engineers and learned about the car and what happens over a race weekend. I also had a lesson with the steering wheel. I am happy because, if you had told me six months ago that one day I would visit this workshop and meet this team, I would have never believed you. It's great. The dream is so close to becoming reality now.”
