Alguersuari looking to USA?

Former Toro Rosso pilot Jaime Alguersuari is rumoured to be in talks to join an IndyCar Series test before the end of 2013.
F1 refugee Jaime Alguersuari may finally have put his hopes of returning to the top flight on hold, amid rumours that he could join the exodus to America.

The Spaniard was unceremoniously dumped by Red Bull when it decided that he was not world championship material – despite having only been given a chance with Toro Rosso – and missed out on a possible move to Lotus by trying to remain loyal to the drinks brand. Since then, he has yet to find a way back onto the grid, despite apparent interest from various quarters – notably Force India - over the past two seasons.

Now, having taken time to devote himself to music and cycling alongside his test role at Pirelli, Alguersuari is allegedly being courted by chassis supplier Dallara with a view to switching to the IndyCar Series.

According to Spanish daily Marca, the former British F3 champion, who contested 46 grands prix – and scored 31 points - with STR, could appear at an end-of-season test with a view to joining the series in 2014, with the report suggesting Panther Racing as a potential destination.

John Barnes' squad has run another Spaniard, Oriol Servia, on occasion this season, alternating the veteran with Ryan Briscoe since dropping JR Hildebrand from the #4 National Guard car after May's Indianapolis 500. ALMS commitments, however, will prevent Briscoe from racing in the series after this weekend's event at Sonoma.

Should Alguersuari make the move – and it is far from certain that he will – he would join the likes of Sebastian Bourdais, Takuma Sato, Justin Wilson and Rubens Barrichello in making the switch from F1, while EJ Viso, Simon Pagenaud and Luca Filippi have all crossed the Atlantic when it became apparent that their F1 dreams would not be realised.
