Alguersuari readies for kart world championships

Jaime Alguersuari is poised to return to the world championship although, sadly for the Spaniard, it is in karting and not F1.

Jaime Alguersuari has confirmed that he is to take part in this month's World Championship for KZ class karts.

The Spaniard has been missing from motorsport competition since losing his ride at Toro Rosso before the start of the 2012 season, and has seen various rumoured comebacks founder before he even made it into the cockpit, but has posted pictures of his new ride ahead of the one-off event at Varennes in France on 19-22 September.

"The truth is that I miss competition and so I will compete in what most resembles a F1 car," the 22-year old revealed at the start of the season as, having been unable to find a means of returning to F1 for 2013, despite reports that he was in line for a possible seat at Force India, Alguersuari announced that he would take part in the European KZ Championship. Since then, he has focused his attention on his ongoing development role with Pirelli and a renewed love of cycling, but was most recently linked to a possible future in IndyCars, with Dallara apparently keen to get him involved in an end-of-season test. For now, though, the Spaniard will content himself with that delayed return to top flight karting.

“Good morning all!” he tweeted on Tuesday (3 September), “Leaving to Italy for some karting test, preparing World Cup in two weeks in France.”

He then went on to post an image of himself in Tonykart team attire, showing off the kart he will campaign in the French event.

As for an F1 comeback, a late August Twitter post suggests that it may be some way off.

“I'm having a great time working for Pirelli and developing tyres, but I don't think you guys will see me back in F1 at least for the early future,” he admitted.
