Raikkonen: Ferrari deal changes nothing

13 September 2013

Kimi Raikkonen insists that confirmation that he will move to Ferrari next year will have no impact on his remaining races with Lotus in the 2013 F1 season.

Ferrari confirmed it had signed the Finn for 2014 earlier this week, ending Raikkonen's time at Enstone after two seasons.

The decision to move came despite the fact that Lotus had been eager to try and retain his services for another season but Raikkonen insisted that his decision would have no bearing on his approach in the final seven races of the current campaign.

“Hopefully it means I won't be asked so much where I'm driving next year, but maybe it means more questions,” he said. “For my racing this season it doesn't make any difference. I'll keep pushing at every race to get the best result I can.”

Raikkonen heads into next weekend's Singapore Grand Prix having failed to score in the past two races, and he admitted it was vital to try and pick up strong points to keep his fading championship challenge alive.

“Obviously, the podium is a target again,” he said. “We've had two races without scoring any points so we need to score as many as we can in the remaining races this season.

“You don't win Championships by not scoring points. We've had two races where we haven't scored which is not ideal. We're here to race and score as many points as we can. Of course, that's what everyone is trying to do so we just have to keep pushing and hope that we have some pretty good races for the rest of the year, then we'll see where we end up in the standings.”
