Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: Vettel in charge under practice lights

Sebastian Vettel leads the way for Red Bull in second free practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Sebastian Vettel topped the times for Red Bull as Friday practice drew to a close ahead of the latest round of the F1 season at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.

As times tumbled following the opening session earlier in the afternoon, Vettel was able to lead the way on both compound of tyre, posting the best time on the harder compound rubber early on and then jumping back to the top of the timesheets when he switched to the softs later on.

That fast time allowed Vettel to outpace team-mate Mark Webber in the sister Red Bull, with the Australian two-tenths of a second clear of Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes. Kimi Raikkonen, Nico Rosberg and Sergio Perez rounded out the top six.

Perez's McLaren team-mate Jenson Button was one of a number of drivers to suffer problems in the session having been forced to slow with a puncture, although the Briton was still able to finish seventh quickest, just ahead of the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso.

His team-mate Felipe Massa rounded out the top ten, with Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg splitting the Ferrari pair. Hulkenberg was also the final driver to lap within a second of the benchmark time.

Aside from Button, Force India's Paul di Resta also suffered a puncture that saw him run off circuit, while a brake problem caused delays for FP1 pace setter Romain Grosjean, who was only twelfth having completed just 18 laps.

Max Chilton and Giedo van der Garde both suffered spins on track on what was their first on-track appearance of the weekend having missed FP1, while Chilton was also forced to return to the garage when the front left brake duct came away from his Marussia.
