Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: Hulkenberg offered Force India seat - report

Nico Hulkenberg giving up on Lotus, looks to Force India...?
Sauber pilot Nico Hulkenberg could be poised to re-join Force India next season, with Lotus looking increasingly likely to draft in Pastor Maldonado to replace the Ferrari-bound Kimi Raikkonen.

According to reports by Sky Sports F1, Hulkenberg has been offered a two-year deal by the Silverstone-based outfit, although whether that is to replace Adrian Sutil or Paul di Resta is not clear.

“The belief in the Hulkenberg camp is very much that the Maldonado deal has been done,” Sky Sports F1 lead commentator, David Croft said during coverage of practice on Friday in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports F1 pundit and co-commentator Martin Brundle has revealed that the biggest fear for Hulkenberg is that he could be left without a drive, like he was at the end of 2010, when he was dropped by Williams.

“What happens with Maldonado and that Lotus seat will be a bellwether for what is going on in F1,” Brundle told Sky Sports News. “There are only five teams which are financially secure and the rest of them are all struggling so they are following the money and not the talent.

“I spoke to Hulkenberg's manager this morning and he is terrified that Hulkenberg will end up with nowhere to drive next year which is utterly, utterly ridiculous.

“Unfortunately, the midfield need money and he doesn't bring money, just talent and speed.”
