After setting the sixth fastest time after the opening day of running in Abu Dhabi, Sergio Perez was in a positive frame of mind and looking forward to the rest of the weekend.

Having struggled for most of the year with balance issues Perez admitted that he was much happier today and that he was feeling very comfortable with the balance of his car.

"We feel really comfortable with the car," said the Mexican. "Myself and Jenson are both confident; normally we have to change a lot from Friday to Saturday for the balance but I'm confident that tomorrow we won't."

Like many drivers Perez commented on the difficulties presented by running the first session of Friday and Saturday in the afternoon when conditions are very different to those facing drivers during the race and qualifying:

"I feel happy with the car but I think that in FP3 there won't be much that we can learn," he said. "The conditions in the morning are very different [to the race] so the balance changes a lot. The soft tyre is performing a lot better and for us we are happier than we were in India with the soft tyre."

In India both McLaren drivers made it through to the Q3 shootout so it will be interesting to see if they can show improvement tomorrow during qualifying, with Perez seeking to at least match the fifth place finish he secured last weekend.
