In direct contrast to predecessor Sergio Perez, Kevin Magnussen intends to make a low-key arrival as a McLaren F1 driver, aware that he has much ground to make up as a rookie.

While Perez had a couple of years in the top flight under his belt by the time he moved to Woking, including a trio of podiums in 2012, he cemented his move by announcing that he intended to be a world title contender. In the end, after a dismal year for the entire team, the Mexican was moving on to make room for WSbR champion Magnussen.

Speaking in a Twitter Q&A with fans, the Dane admitted that he was looking forward to stepping up, but appeared under no illusions as to what being a part of the F1 family entailed.
